Intel Pentium III 733ebIntel Pentium III 733eb

Since the release of the coppermine core, Intel scaled all successive processors with two variants, one working at an external frequency of 100Mhz and one at 133Mhz. The 100Mhz external frequency was basically to support the older platforms, but with Intel releasing the 815 chipset we had official support for 133Mhz. A higher bus speed obviously means the processor has a lower multiplier lending itself very much to overclocking. But the flip side to it is since it is already working on a higher external frequency, there is little room for further increase in the bus speed unless one has high quality PC-133 (CAS2) SDRAM and a graphic card that can sustain very high AGP bus speeds. Also with the release of the Intel 815 chipset the 733eb found its true companion. We tested this processor with the ASUS CUSL2, PC-133(CAS2) SDRAM, ASUS GeForce2 GTS. You cannot get a more powerful system than the one specified. First up we have Quake3, scoring 123.3 and 117.9fps in the normal and high-quality modes. Moving on to Content Creation Winstone 2000, it scored 26.7, which is a minimum of 10% improvement over the Pentium III 700 working at 100Mhz FSB. The true benefits of the enhanced external frequency are more visible in the Windows boot-up time. Also application load-up times too were reduced considerably and internal data transfer rates had improved too all pointing towards the increased memory bandwidth due the extra bus speed.
